Biography from Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art

Simon Balyon developed a passion for painting at an early age. Whether painting in his studio or plein air in the countryside or on the beach, Balyon strives to convey the various moods of the different seasons on his canvases.  His compositions often reflect the beauty of the Dutch countryside, whether it is through his crisp winter scenes, lushly foliaged summer renditions, or his budding spring countrysides.  His landscapes are intended to be immersed in a tranquil and luminous serenity, and balanced in composition. Born in 1965 in The Hague, the Netherlands, Balyon grew up in an artistic environment.  He is the youngest of seven children, some of whom are recognized artists and graphic designers.  Like his brothers and his mentors, his love and devotion for nature motivate his work.

Both the Impressionist and Romantic schools influence Balyon's artwork.  He has long studied the masters in many European museums and his interests include the painters from The Hague School.  Baylon has studied and worked with a number of prominent artists such as Hans van Moerkerken, Kees Roosenboom and his brothers Andre Balyon and Nanne Balyon with whom he continues to study and work.

In March 2009 Balyon began working on a two-year mega painting featuring the famous Blue Trams of the Netherlands, on the route Leiden-Haarlem.  This panoramic scene titled Panorama Tulipland features the trams riding through the Tulip Region, and is painted on a single piece of handmade canvas measuring 30 meters wide and 4 meters tall.  Balyon will work on Tulipland a few days a week and people can watch the artist as he works.
